Materials: 2 to 3 ozs. DK weight for a newborn size
Worsted weight for size 3 months
Size 6 needles
Yarn needle for sewing
Inc 1: increase 1 by knitting in the front and back of stitch
Hat
Cast on 12 stitches
Row 1: Knit
Row 2 and all even Purl
Row 3: K1, Inc1, repeat
Row 5: K2, Inc 1, repeat
Row 7: K3, Inc 1, repeat
Row 9: K4, Inc 1, repeat
Row 11: K5, Inc 1, repeat
Row 13: K6, Inc 1, repeat
Row 15: K7 , Inc 1, repeat
Row 17: K8, Inc 1, repeat (60 sts)
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 3 ½” for newborn, 4” for 3 months
Knit 4 rows even
Pattern Rows:
1: K2 tog twice, *(YO, K1) 4 times, K2 tog 4 times* , repeat ending with K2 tog twice
2 and 4: Purl
3: Knit
Repeat the 4 pattern rows once more. Work Rows 1 and 2
Knit 3 rows even and bind off.
Sew up side seam. When you reach the original 12 cast on stitches weave your yarn through them and pull tight to finish
the top of the hat.
Booties
Cast on 24 sts.
Row 1-4: Knit
Pattern Rows:
1. K2 tog twice, *(YO, K1) 4 times, K2 tog 4 times*, repeat ending K2 tog twice
2 and 4: Purl
3: Knit
Repeat pattern rows 1-4
Foot:
Row1 and 2: Knit
Row 3: K2, YO, K2 tog, repeat across
Row 4: Knit
Row 5: K11, Inc in next 2 sts., K11
Row 6 and all even: Purl
Row 7: K12, Inc in next 2 sts, K 12
Row 9: K 13, Inc in next 2 sts, , K 13
Row 11: K 14, Inc in next 2 sts, K14
Row 13: Knit 15, Inc in next 2 sts, K15
Knit 7 rows even and bind off. Seam up back of bootie.
Weave an 18” ribbon , crocheted chain, or I-cord through the eyelet on row 3 of the foot.
